Making History Come Alive

The Doss Heritage and Culture Center is a dream come true for Parker County.  What began as one room inside the Weatherford Public Library known as the Heritage Gallery in 1975 has expanded into a $5 million facility, thanks to the Civic Development, Inc. a non profit corporation dedicated to supporting the civic, benevolent, charitable and educational undertakings in the county.  Funded by private donations from people who care about Parker County and its history, Civic Development, Inc. paved the way for its construction and enlarged its functional role in the community.  The DHCC Board of Directors and a dedicated staff have now taken the leadership role in its operation and will soon have the facility fully operational.

Beginning in 2007, Parker County’s rich tapestry of cattle barons and cowboys, Broadway stars and political leaders will all be showcased in spacious state-of-the-art exhibit spaces and is making history come alive.  Along with the three galleries, the DHCC includes community spaces that can be used for a variety of purposes including small concerts, educational programs, meeting, celebrations and events for all segments of the community.

This beautiful facility is named after Mr. and Mrs. James Doss, a prominent banking family that has given generously to many projects.  This center was one of Mr. Doss’s dreams for Parker County, and Mrs. Doss continues to serve on the board of directors.

The museum and its leadership are dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the area as well as educating future generations about the past.

Doss Center is open Wednesday through Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Admission for the galleries is $3.00 for adults, Senior Citizens and Students $2.00 and children under 6 are free
Doss Heritage and Culture Center is a great venue for your next meeting or event.
