John E. Scovil, Executive Director

Before joining the Doss Heritage and Culture Center, Scovil was Director of Industry Clusters Initiatives and Executive Director of a $1 million Texas Workforce Commission Manufacturing Grant for the Arlington Chamber.  Prior to his work with the Arlington Chamber, he was the Vice President for Training and Organizational Development for Summit Bancshares in Fort Worth, planning, developing and facilitating all manner of customer service, leadership and sales management training programs for the eleven bank corporation.  Before Summit Bancshares, Scovil worked with the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce on its 2012 Olympic Bid Process as the Vice President of the Tarrant County Initiative.  He was part of the team that secured pledges worth $5 million to make the Metroplex's Olympic bid a reality.

Gabe Schooley, Operations Manager

Schooley comes to the Doss Center from Fort McKavett State Historic Site in Fort McKavett, Texas. His position as a Park Ranger IV gave him extensive experience in collections activities, interpretive exhibits, volunteer program management and special events planning and execution. Schooley was in charge of Fort McKavett’s annual living history event utilizing 200 volunteers and playing to an audience of over 1,000 each year.

Schooley is a graduate of Tarleton State University in Stephenville where he earned a BA in Exercise and Sports Studies and a minor in history. He began at Fort McKavett in 1997, and had previously worked as a personal trainer and even spent some time as a ranch hand. He is originally from Eldorado, Texas. He and his wife LeAnna live in Stephenville where she serves as assistant director/curator for the W.K. Gordon Center there.
